Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)

STFC’s mission is to deliver world-leading national and international research and innovation capabilities and, through those, discover the secrets of the Universe. Our major research and innovation campuses at Harwell, Daresbury and research facilities across the UK and overseas support fundamental research in astronomy, physics, computational science and space science.

STFC operates world-class research facilities for the UK, including particle accelerators, telescopes, synchrotron light sources, neutron and muon sources and lasers. We also manage the UK funding and engagement for major international research facilities (Big Science), providing the UK research community with access to technology beyond the scope or capability of national facilities, or that provide complementary instrumentation through international collaboration.
